Yasuke Is Actually Zoro?!
By ImJustThatKinky • 2 years ago

Well, even if I’m okay with Yasuke inclusion in the game, it’s not like Ubisoft is doing themselves any favor when trying to bring people over to the side of accepting Yasuke as a main character. Ubisoft made a tweet showing off Yasuke blade, which looked very familiar.

That’s right, Yasuke is actually Zoro from One Piece. Or maybe Yasuke would actually be Zolo. This was something that people flamed and called Ubisoft on, which is completely warranted. I’m not sure who on the team thought this was a good idea, but it didn’t do them any favors stealing a sword from the legendary swordsman Roronoa Zoro and claiming it as Yasuke’s. And that’s actually another problem that people are having, Japanese and American. People are trying to claim that Ubisoft is presenting Yasuke to be a legendary samurai.

Now these claims about Yasuke are kind of blurred for me. I haven’t seen any Ubisoft posts claiming that Yasuke was a legendary samurai. All I see are Americans mad at Yasuke calling him a legendary samurai, which is upsetting the Japanese audience. Which I can honestly understand. Trying to claim that Yasuke was a legendary samurai in history is completely false from what we can tell. But, he still could be a samurai according to Japanese historian Yu Hirayama.

But at the end of the day, no matter what proof we get from either side, people will be stuck in their ways, and ideas. So my last statement is that I don’t believe Yasuke was a legendary samurai, but I do believe he was some form of a samurai, whether that was high rank or low rank. And also, it’s a game, media has always twisted history to make something more interesting, so I’m not coming into Assassin Creed Shadows hoping it will help me pass my next Japanese history test.

Now this, I might use for American history.

What’s your opinion on this controversy? Does media have to be historically accurate? Do you think Yasuke was Zoro? Tell us in the comments.
